Church Planter Interview: Daryl Jones, Rock Fellowship Church – Miami, F.L.

Daryl Jones was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in a Christian home and was baptized when he was 6 years old. At the age of 15, he responded to the Gospel and was re-baptized by his father. Although being raised as the son of a preacher, Daryl suppressed his call to the preaching ministry at the age of 17 and pursued the opportunity to be a witness for Jesus Christ through athletics. After receiving numerous scholarship offers, the Lord led Daryl to the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. There he became the most decorated two-sport athlete in University of Miami history, participating in both football and track and field, with his football team earning the 2001 National Championship. Daryl went on to play for the New York Giants, the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings from 2002 to 2005. It was during those years that Daryl began to feel God’s call to the Gospel ministry.

In 2004 Daryl answered the Lord’s call to the preaching ministry. He became a licensed minister in 2005, and in 2008 was ordained at New Hope Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. He served as Pastor of Children and Youth at New Hope Baptist Church from 2006 to 2009. Following his time there, Daryl served as the director of youth at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas, under the leadership of Dr. Tony Evans until 2015. In 2008, he earned a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and is currently in the dissertation phase of a Ph. D. in biblical studies, majoring in New Testament studies and minoring in biblical theology.

Daryl was blessed to marry the love of his life, Kamica, in 2001. They have been graced with seven beautiful children, four lovely daughters and three handsome sons.
