Charles River Church was planted in 2010 in Boston, MA, our nation’s most unreached metropolitan area. The church is located in the western most neighborhood of Boston, a neighborhood of 70,000 people which previously had little to no English-speaking / Gospel-preaching presence. The neighborhood is among the most affordable in Boston and, as a result, draws a great diversity of young families and young professionals seeking to lay down roots in the city.
Charles River Church’s desire has been to plant a church that will reach this ethnically diverse mix of young professionals and families. We held our grand opening service on October 17, 2010 in a Boston public high school and currently gather for worship at the Boston School of Modern Languages (an old church building converted into a school). We are overjoyed to return this facility to its original intent, the worship of Christ and the edification of His people!
Charles River Church is deeply committed to serving as the hands of Christ to our neighborhood. We have found many relational in-roads by serving as the primary volunteer source for our neighborhood’s main street association. We have also been given the privilege to provide children’s activities for their 22 week Farmer’s Market and summer concert series. Another sign of God’s favor has been our relationship with the Washington Street Housing Project, Boston’s new flagship housing project with 250+ family-units. We have been able to provide the residents with a personal finance seminar, interviewing/resume-building seminar, college application assistance, tutoring, mentoring, and discipleship for those who have come to faith. We currently have one of our eight small groups on site, as well as our bi-monthly children’s ministry averaging 30+ children, applying, and memorizing the Bible. The complex’s community room and kitchen has become a primary ministry center for our young congregation. With a unique emphasis on reaching inner-city children and youth by adopting low-income housing complexes, we are seeing the Gospel bear on our neighborhood. We give God the glory for the lives we are seeing changed! We believe the best days are yet to come.
